Cafe Blessing

Mummy has brought me back to Aunt Karen's & Aunt Veronica's cafe tonight. We are back there to attend their cafe blessing. However, I spent most of my time sleeping and missed most of what was happening. Well, what do you expect?? I'm just a baby and will only drink milk, sleep, poo & cry! But this is also my 1st night outing.

I'm a Model Again!

Why am I a model again today?? It is because Mummy is thinking of changing her mind about the photo which she submitted to one-joy.com to do my full month gift pack. Hence, she takes multiple photos of me again.

Application for my 1st passport

Today is another momentous day! Mummy is out with me alone. Where are we going?? We are going to the ICA Building to apply for my passport. I slept most part of the journey and only woke up towards the end of it to fuss & cry. After Mummy parked the car, She took me out of the car seat, bundled me into the pram and off we went to ICA Building.

Once there, she quickly brought me to the feeding room and fed me. After that, she took me to the 5th floor and the aunty there helped Mummy to hold me so that I could take my instant passport photo. After that, I started to fuss again, so Mummy brought me back to the feeding room and fed me. She then filled out the form for the passport application, pasted my photo there and dropped it into the application box.

We then left and Mummy brought me to the cafe that is opened by Aunt Karen & Aunt Veronica. It is near to Plaza Singapura. While there, I am hungry again, so Mummy fed me again. After a while, we left and headed by to Plaza Singapura where Mummy parked her car.

Mummy stopped by at Mothercare to pick up a few things and then we headed home. And that was my 1st outing with just Mummy & I.

Ye Ye & Mar Mar are Here to Visit

Ye Ye & Mar Mar make a day trip from Kluang to visit me. They took the train here.

As Mummy is afraid that their watches & rings will scratch me, I have delicate skin, she requested them to remove all these. Mummy is my protector!

Am I a Model?

This is not the end! There was more to come!

It turned out that Mummy was trying to get a great shot of me so that she can put it on my full month card, that would be printed & given away with a gift pack. Guess which picture she chose.......the answer would be revealed in time.

However, I was not spare after my bath too! I hope Mummy doesn't intend to send my naked pictures???

My Last Blood Test Done For Jaundice Checking & Birth Certificate Application

We are back bright and early at 8am at the laboratory at Gleneagles Medical Centre. After taking blood for the blood test, Daddy and Mummy went to the administration office of Gleneagles Hospital to apply for my birth certificate, while waiting for the results to be out. After filling out all the relevant forms, the birth certificate was prepared and returned to us on the spot. By then, it was time to go to Dr Steven's clinic to see him.

At the clinic, Dr Steven calls and gets the test results, and my jaundice level has improved from yesterday. Dr Steven is very please and gives me a clean bill of health. He tells Mummy to monitor me and come back to see him if I look yellow.

We leave and reach home around 10+am. This is how I look after being woken up so early.....*yawn*....I'm still sleepy

Discharged!

After suntanning from yesterday to today, I had to do another blood test at 9am and wait for the result. By 11am, the results are out, my jaundice level has gone down significantly. Dr Steven gave me the all okay to be discharged. But I have to see him again tomorrow to do yet another blood test to ensure that my jaundice level does not go back up again.

We leave the hospital and head home. It's great to be home. I looked so much more relaxed at home.

I sleep better too.

Hospitalized!

Mummy received a call from Dr Steven around 11.30am. Dr Steven told Mummy that my jaundice level is still at the borderline, no improvement and no deterioration. Mummy was given the 2 options again, to either send me in for phototherapy or to make sure I get enough fluids and to check again in 2 days' time. Initially Mummy's 1st impulse was to wait 2 more days. But then she decided to consult Dr Steven's expert opinion. And his opinion was to admit me for 1 day of phototherapy and do a blood test after that, and if my jaundice level goes down, I can be discharged. Dr Steven mentioned that he will arrange for Mummy to be admitted as well so that she can continue to breastfeed me. So he tells Mummy to have lunch and then come back to Gleneagles after that.

After lunch, we went to Gleneagles, Mummy did the admissions and then she brought me to the 6West nursery on the 6th floor. I was stripped of all my clothing and I had something covering my eyes, then I was placed under the ultraviolet light. The nurse told Mummy that she would wheel me out every 2 hours so that she can breastfeed me.

So every 2 hours, the nurse would wheel me out and Mummy would breastfeed me for about 1/2 an hour before sending me back for my suntanning session.

My 1st Visit with Dr Steven Ng

I am back at Gleneagles to see Dr Steven Ng for the 1st time. The receptionist, Jess, weighs me -this time without even my diaper- and find that I weigh 2.655kgs and I am 46.9cm. Have I shrunk?

When we see Dr Steven, he explains that at birth I could have been hurriedly measured, hence it was not as accurate as the measurement at the clinic. Dr Steven assures Mummy that he is pro-breastfeeding, but he does cite cases of mummies not having enough milk and still insisting on total breastfeeding -tbf-, and the poor baby ended being severely dehydrated. Mummy agreed that if she didn't have enough milk, for the good of me, she would not insist on total breastfeeding me. Dr Steven examines me and find that I am still looking yellow. Hence, he wants another blood test done. He mentions that after the blood test, we can leave. He will call Mummy later with the results.

We go back to the laboratory at the ground floor. And while waiting to register me, Daddy snaps these 2 pictures of me.

After doing the blood test, we head on home.

Check Up with Dr William Yip

This is me in the morning.

This morning, I am back at Gleneagles. Daddy snaps a picture of me in the lift.

We are heading to the Singapore Baby & Child Clinic -SBCC-. We are here to see Dr Yip. The receptionist weighs me and find that I am 2.7kgs. After that, we go into Dr Yip's consultation room and he examines me & finds that I am on the yellowish side. Hence, I have to go to the laboratory on ground floor to do a blood test. I had blood taken from my foot. Daddy and Mummy were told to go back to the clinic in 1 hour's time to see Dr Yip who would have the results.

After 1 hour, we are back at the SBCC. Dr Yip tells Mummy that I don't have much weight progression. He advised her to feed me formula milk. He went to say that with all the modern advances, apart from not having antibodies in it, formula milk is exactly the same as breast milk. Mummy was fed up as Dr Yip did not even check with her how her breast feeding was going and straight away told her to feed me formula milk. Mummy told Dr Yip that it is not because she doesn't have enough milk for me, but rather that I was sleeping the whole of yesterday and didn't wake up to drink milk.

Dr Yip then looks at my blood test result and tells Mummy that my jaundice level is borderline. He told Mummy that she had 2 options, the 1st is to send me into the hospital for phototherapy, the 2nd is to bring me home and ensure that I get enough fluides and to bring me back in 2 days' time to do another blood test. Mummy asks Dr Yip about the procedure if she were to send me in for phototherapy. Dr Yip says that while I am doing the phototherapy, I will be fed formula milk. Mummy has heard that she is able to carry on breastfeeding me, even when I am in the hospital. So she asks Dr Yip if she could check herself into the hospital and carry on breastfeeding me. Dr Yip gave Mummy a lecture and told her that while it is good to feed me breast milk, there is no need to be over-zealous about it. Mummy was even more fed up when she heard that and decided not to send me in to phototherapy under Dr Yip. An appointment was fixed for me on the 15th September 2005. But even then, Mummy has already decided to change pediatrician and she realizes that Dr Yip and her are singing a different tune regarding breastfeeding.

After fixing the appointment, Daddy was told to pay for consultation and medication. Mummy was surprised that there is medication as no medication is able to help with jaundice. But as she is busy attending to me, she only asks Daddy about it in the car. They realize that they have actually paid for cord spirit and antiseptic powder, which I do not require. Mummy & Daddy really felt cheated & were even more determined to change the pediatrician.

After we leave Gleneagles, we head out to Mothercare @Centrepoint as Mummy wants to get a bath stand so that I can bathe in it more comfortably. I think I am the youngest person at Mothercare that day! After getting the bath stand, we went home.

On reaching home, we bump into our neighbour who is also a gynaecologist. So Daddy asks him if he knows any pediatrician in Gleneagles Hospital. He recommends Dr Steven Ng from Steven's Baby & Child Clinic. And this is how Dr Steven ended being my pediatrician.

Leaving Gleneagles & Coming Home

It is a momentous day for me. I am finally leaving the hospital and heading home.
Home is at 107 Jervois Road #03-03. Mummy waited for Dr Lim -gynae- and Dr Yip -pd- to give the green light. When it was given, it was around 11.30am. Mummy change me and I'm all ready to leave the hospital. My weight now is 2.63kgs. But the nurse told Mummy not to worry, told her that this is common.

Mummy had her lunch and it was time to leave. Daddy went to put all the things in the car, while Mummy waited at the reception area. When Daddy came back, he settled the bill and bought lunch for himself.

Pretty soon, we reached home.

I am so comfortable in my own cot that I spent the rest of the day sleeping. No matter how Mummy tried to wake me, I refused to wake! By today, Mummy's breast milk had come in, and because she could not feed me in the afternoon, by evening, she was engorged! Poor Mummy had to bear the pain and massage her breasts so that the engorgement would go off. I only started suckling from Mummy's breast at night. I then spent the rest of the night waking up almost every 2 hours to drink milk.

My 3rd day at Gleneagles Hospital

It's my 3rd day at Gleneagles Hospital! Mummy has accepted Xiu4 to be my middle chinese name, and she tells Daddy that since he has chosen the middle name, she will choose my last name. She finally narrowed it down to Ye1 Xiu4 En1 or Ye1 Xiu Jun1. She will give it some thought and decide which name she will use.

I have more visitors today. But as usual, I spent most of my time sleeping, only waking up to drink & poo.

More pictures of me taken by my Daddy!

My 2nd Day out of Mummy's Tummy

This morning, Dr Lim comes by to check on Mummy and asks if she wants to have her drip removed. Mummy immediately says yes, she is tired of having to lie in bed and not be able to go anywhere. Later, a nurse comes by to remove Mummy's drip when the medication has run out. Mummy decided to get off the bed to walk around. Daddy had to send Grandma & Grandpa to the train station. So I was left with Mummy.

Mummy found out that I had pooed in my diaper, and she decided to change my diaper to gain some experience, thinking that if she couldn't handle, she could always buzz for the nurse. However, while she was changing me half-way, she felt a gust of lochia and as her maternity pad was loose, she started dripping blood all over the floor! Mummy quickly finished changing my diaper and as she wasn't sure if she could leave me alone in plastic cot, so she brought me with her to the bathroom, to avoid dripping more blood on the floor. While there, she pressed for the nurse to come and help her. The nurse carried me and left mummy to clean herelf up. When she finished cleaning herself, she came out of the bathroom to see me lying by myself in my plastic cot. After a while, the cleaning staff came to clean the carpet as well as the bathroom.

Today, we had some visitors coming by too. Pastor Ben came by and Daddy asked him to recommend a chinese name for me. Pastor Ben looked at me and said that he thinks of xiu4 when he sees me. Daddy was very happy, as there was support for xiu4 for my chinese name.

Uncle Chin Kwee & Aunt Peggy came by to visit too and Aunt Peggy wanted to carry me as she doesn't have a little girl of her own. She and Uncle Chin Kwee have 2 boys.

Here are the pictures taken on the 2nd day of my birth!

My Grand Entrance

Today is a very important day. Why is it important?? It is important because I will be making my grand entrance today.

The day started off with Daddy & Mummy going to Gleneagles Hospital -GEH- at around 9+pm to do their hospital check-in. After checking in, Mummy is shown to her room. Then the staff nurse came in to prepare Mummy for her cesarean operation at 11.30am. As Mummy is allergic to both micropore & tagedem, both which are supposed to be very hypoallergen. So Dr Lim says that he has to give her a cloth tape which is not waterproof. That meant that after the operation, Mummy would not be able to bathe until the tape & stitches are removed. After all the preparation was done, Mummy rested and waited for the appointed time.

The time finally arrived and Mummy was wheeled to the operating theatre. After Mummy was given the anesthesia, she slept and only knew later that I made my grand entrance at 11.49am. I weigh 2.925kgs, am 49cm long and have a head circumference of 35cm. After I was born, Daddy saw me and took pictures of me, before I was whisked off to the 6West nursery for the nurses there to clean me up. I then had to wait for the pediatrician -Dr William Yip- to check me and ensure that I was fine.

In the meantime, Mummy was told to wake up after the operation and asked to state her name. After that she was dozing off and on, while waiting to be wheeled back to the ward. By the time she was wheeled back, it was already 1.30pm. Mummy was told that she would see me after the Dr Yip had checked and all was fine. So Mummy spent the time sending smses to everyone to announce my arrival.

After that I was wheeled into the ward and Mummy put me to her breast for me to suckle and drink the all important colestrum. Mummy kept me with her so that she could feed me the colestrum whenever I woke. Apart from drinking that, I spent the rest of the time sleeping. And this is how I spent my 1st day out of Mummy' tummy.

Here are the many pictures taken by Daddy!

Daddy & Mummy have agreed on my Christian name, which would be Nicole Yap. But they still have not decided on my chinese name yet. Daddy had decided on xiu4. But Mummy & Daddy do not have a concensus on it yet.

Pregnancy Pictures

Daddy decided to take a few pictures of Mummy since I am going to be born soon. Here are the pictures.

By now, Mummy is starting to have a little bit of water retention.

Daddy reminded Mummy to eat what she wants to eat before giving birth. So tonight, it is to Kuriya japanese Fine Dining Restaurant at Great World City for dinner. Mummy plans to have her sashimi and foie gras, before having to eat confinement food for 1 month.

38th Week of Pregnancy

We are back again at Dr Lim's clinic. Mummy is hoping fervently that I have turned down. Dr Lim placed his hands on Mummy's tummy and felt Mummy's tummy. By touch, it seemed as if I have turned around. So Dr Lim said, he will proceed to confirm with the ultrasound. The moment of truth! However, on the ultrasound, I am still breeched! A slight diversion at this point, Mummy's gained 8.2kgs by now.

Dr Lim advised Mummy to go for cesarean to deliver me. Initially Mummy asked if she could continue to wait until week 40 -give it up, mom!-. But Dr Lim felt that having a planned cesarean was better than having to do an unplanned cesarean, should Mummy go into labour and I am still breeched. Mummy finally caved in and agreed on the cesarean. Next, Dr Lim asked her to decide on when to do it. Initially, Daddy & Mummy thought of saturday -Sep10-, Dr Lim told them that as he has clinic on Saturday, it will have to be done very early in the morning. Dr Lim asked if they minded having the cesarean done on Friday, as he sets aside Friday as his operation day. Hence, he has no cllinic on that day. Daddy & Mummy were agreeable, and realized that Friday was Sep9 -0909- which was a nice date. So looks like everything is falling into place nicely.

After deciding on the date, Dr Lim told to decide if she wanted to have the casearean with general anesthesia -GA- or with epidural or spinal epidural. As Mummy's operation was on Friday, she could think about it and let the clinic nurse know tomorrow.

So everything's set now. I would be making my appearance on Friday! This is so exciting!

Baby Chloe's Birth

After Aunt Angeline's sms yesterday, Mummy received another sms today! This time, it's from Aunt Christina, letting her know that baby Chloe is born at Mount Elizabeth Hotel. I wonder if I'll meet Chloe, when I'm born, as often as I met her while still in Mummy's tummy.

Cordlife Talk

Daddy & Mummy finally got round to attending the talk at Cordlife. They are planning to store my cord blood when I am born. So they have decided to attend the talk and if all goes well, they will sign up with cordlife to bank my cord blood.

This is Mummy reading the writeup about cord blood banking with great concentration.

At the end of the talk, Daddy & Mummy were sold, and they decided to sign up with Cordlife to bank my cord blood.

37th Week of Pregnancy

We are back at Dr Lim's clinic again for my 37th week checkup. In the ultrasound, it is seen that I am still breeched. By now, Dr Lim is convinced that I will not be turning. However, Mummy still wanted to make a last-ditched attempt to delay the ceasarean in the hope of giving me a chance to turn around. "Give it up, mom! I'm not going to turn around." By now, Mummy has gained 8kgs. Dr Lim agreed to wait one more week, to see if I will turn. So the moment of truth's next week. Until then. bye!
