Chinese New Year Day

Daddy & mummy started Chinese New Year Day feeling very tired. Daddy couldn't sleep because of the fire crackers that were going off until very early in the morning! Mummy wasn't well because the air-con at Grandparent's house was blowing directly at her head. Her throat became dry and she developed a cough on CNY day! Thank God, grandma said they were having steam boat for lunch. That was great! At least mummy would be able to eat and not worry about the food being oily. Anyway, as daddy wasn't able to sleep well the previous night, due to the fire crackers, he decided to return to Singapore today instead of staying on until 2nd day of CNY.

But the day just got worst! Daddy & mummy stayed at my grandparent's house to watch the last episode of the amazing race. After that, just as they were going to great-grandmother's house to 'bai nien', grandma came back to say that she was going to cook lunch instead. This is because grandma's brother was coming to visit and she was afraid the steam boat would not have enough to go around, and they were also afraid that the restaurants would be crowded.

Daddy & mummy went to great-grandma's house at 12pm to 'bai nien' and came back about 1pm. Lunch was still not ready! Daddy asked what time lunch would be ready and was told it would be 1.30pm. Mummy said she could wait 1/2 hour, even though she was quite hungry already. Mummy waited for lunch while daddy went to take a nap as he would be driving back to Singapore. After 1/2 hour, Aunt Sharon said that they should go check out if the restaurants are really crowded. So she and grandpa went to check out the restaurant as well as meet grandma's brother who had arrived at the city square but did not know the way to the house. Aunty Sharon called back to tell grandma that the restaurant had space, so it was decided to go there for lunch instead.

After waiting for 45 minutes, the lunch and venue was changed again! Grandma told mummy to eat some snacks that she had prepared, to hold hunger at bay. By then, mummy was really hungry and went into the kitchen to find that what was available, was deep fried wantons!!! Poor mummy!!! She tried to eat those wantons that were stacked on another wanton, so that the oil would have drained onto the wanton below. Mummy woke daddy up and by the time they had to the restaurant, it was already 2pm! After ordering, the food came in another 15 minutes time. The 1st dish was 'yu sheng'. Mummy decided not to eat the raw fish, but thought it was fine to eat the vegetables. Lunch finished around 3.30pm. Everyone proceeded back to grandpa's house again.

We were packed and ready to leave by 4pm. We got back to Singapore by 6pm. After we arrived home, mummy's diarrhoea started again! And she realized that it was a mistake to have eaten the vegetables from the 'yu sheng' that contained raw fish!! Daddy developed a fever too, which mummy found out when they reached home. After mummy had emptied her bowels, she went out to buy Burger King while daddy stayed home to rest. All in all, it was a miserable Chinese New Year celebration for mummy!
