The Moment of Truth

This morning, Mummy was very anxious before going to the gynae's office. She called and spoke with Pastor Ben and they both prayed together for me to be alright. Then it was time to go to the clinic.

At the clinic, Mummy & Daddy waited on tenderhooks for their turn to see Dr Lim. When the moment of truth arrived, Dr Lim told Mummy and Daddy this, if the test was done with baby being 15+weeks, the baby is normal; but if the test was done with the baby being 16+ weeks, the chances of the baby having down syndrome is very high. Mummy asked if it would help if my conception date was used in the calculation, and Dr Lim said yes. Daddy & Mummy managed to narrow my conception date to Dec20-22. With those dates, Dr Lim calculated that I was 15+ weeks when Mummy did the tests. This is as opposed to Mummy last menstrual start date, which would indicate that I am 16+ weeks. Dr Lim explained the amniocentesis procedure to Mummy & Daddy. This procedure would be able to tell them if I was normal. But the test carried a 1 in 300 chance of a miscarriage after the test. Dr Lim also said that Mummy could wait for the 5th month detailed scan which would also help confirmed normacy. Mummy & Daddy was confident of my conception date, which would indicate that the tests were done in my 15+ weeks. And so Mummy opted not to do the test, to trust in the Lord that I would be fine and to wait for the 5th month detailed scan.

Daddy requested to visit me again. So here I am!

Mummy's blood test results below. The prenatal risk screening for down syndrome and neural tube defects report was sent back to the laboratory to be corrected.

The Phone Call!

Mummy received a call today from the gynae's office. She was told that her test results were out and that she was to go down to the gynae's office tomorrow. As Mummy's original appointment was on Apr14, she sensed that something was wrong with the urgency of the appointment. But when she questioned the nurse that called up, the nurse said that Dr Lim will tell her everything when they meet.

Mummy called Daddy to inform him about the changed appointment, and Daddy's 1st question was," Why the urgency?? Is there something wrong??" Mummy replied that she did not know as the nurse did not mention. So Daddy persuaded mummy to call the clinic and check. Mummy called up only to be told that Dr Lim would be on leave during the appointed date, hence the change in appointment. When Mummy told Daddy the response given, Daddy showed disbelief and Mummy told him to call and ask himself then. Daddy then called the clinic himself.

After that, Daddy called Mummy to tell her that the blood test results show that there is a 1 in 30 chance that I was a down syndrome baby. Initially, when Mummy heard the news, she wasn't too worried as she thought that there are still 29 in 30 chances that I was normal. However, when Daddy got home, Daddy printed out lots of material on the blood test results and down syndrome baby and gave them to Mummy to read.

As Mummy read those materials, I felt her anxiety raise and the more she read, the more worried she became. Although I could feel Mummy's anxiety, there was nothing I could do to ease it. I felt normal, and I hoped that Mummy would believe that I was fine.

Anyway, as there was nothing that Daddy or Mummy could do until they have gone down to the clinic to see Dr Lim. They just prayed over the incident and hoped that all would be fine. I believed it was a long, long night, waiting for time to pass to go see Dr Lim the next day.

Tests

Armed with a letter from Dr Lim, Mummy went to the laboratory to take 3 tubes of blood. Think she was there to do this test called the triple blood test that does prenatal risk screening for down syndrome and neural tube defects. The person at the laboratory deftly inserted the needle and in no time at all, collect 3 full tubes of blood! Now, that's professionalism! Mummy was told that the test results would be sent to Dr Lim.

My Development

I am continuously growing in Mummy's stomach. It's pretty easy to spot me in the ultrasound! I'm too big to hide from it! Hee!

Visiting Time

It's visiting time again! Visit who? Visit me of course. Mummy & Daddy get to visit me whenever they go to the gynae's office. Here is how I look now.
